Rise...painting to music

As part of our Olympic inquiry we have been listening to Katy Perry's song Rise - the unofficial Olympic Games song.

We listened to the tone, dynamics and rhythm in the song. We imagined the what the music might look like if we were to paint it.

While listening to the music we let our black paint dance across the paper - creating a visual representation of the song.

We discussed that a painting has many layers and that there are no such things as mistakes in art..as Adam Scott once said "creativity is about making mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep". We are currently learning to take risks with our creativity and problem solve the mistakes we don't want to keep.

Today we began to add some colour based on the changing mood we personally experience with the song. The learners were taught how to blend to create a change in tone and colour. Tomorrow when our paintings are dry we will experiment with some "dry" brush painting.

We hope to have our paintings finished by Friday.
