Mark Sommerset visits NWS

We have been lucky enough to have Mark Somerset visit our school as a guest author for our annual book week. He is the author of the laugh out loud books Baa Baa Smart Sheep and I Love Lemonade.

We listened to Mark read The Boy In A Cherry Tree. We discussed the book, sharing our ideas about what we think the book is about. Mark explained to us this book is about following our dreams and passions.

We laughted along as Mark read I Love Lemonade. We learnt the moral of the story...revenge doesn't pay off.

We had the opportunity to ask Mark questions. We learnt he likes all his books and The Cork in The Ocean was the first book he wrote. The ideas for the book came from a really rough boat trip and the experience he had.

Rugby Skills

We had our first rugby skills lesson today.

Perimeter

We've been doing some learning about perimeter.

What is perimeter? We now know it is the outside  measurement of a shape.

Today's challenge was to work together to make a shape with the largest possible perimeter first using 6 squares, and then 9 squares.

We noticed a pattern, for every new square we add, we increase our perimeter by 2. Using our pattern we made a prediction about the largest possible perimeter we could make as a class. We tested our prediction and discovered our thinking was right.

Great maths lesson today Room 13!

Our Digital Foot Print

Today Mr. V. visited our class to help teach us about what a digital foot print is.

We learnt that we need to have a positive digital foot print - what is a positive digital foot print?

The things that we post online can be there for a very long time. We need to make sure that the things that we do online are appropriate for our audience, because they will be there for a very long time!

Exploring colour

We have been exploring colour in preparation for our finished piece of term 1 art.

Using paint, learners blended primary colours to create secondary colours. Learners also learnt about tertiary colours - colour made when mixing a primary colour with a secondary colour.

The colour wheels that you can see being painted here will help the learners to plan which colours they will use in the finished piece of art.
