Anna shared a nest she found

Anna found this nest at her house and brought it to school to share with us.

This started a discussion about birds and their nests. We wanted to find out the species of bird that these eggs belonged to.

We carefully looked at the eggs and observed the special features of the egg to help us with our internet searches, such as the size, colour and number of eggs. We decided that the eggs belong to a Common Blackbird, based on comparing the pictures on the internet with the eggs inside the nest.

Lizzie found a picture of an adult Common Blackbird, Anna confirmed that this is what she sees often in her backyard. We found out that the female blackbirds aren't actually black, they are brown. Zoe whats to know why they aren't black. We talked about the female birds being responsible for sitting on the eggs and that being brown might help it to camouflage with its surroundings.

Isaac and Peppa

Today Isaac got to help Carole walk Peppa.
Isaac said he felt a little bit scared to walk Peppa, but he said he is happy he got to walk Peppa.
Isaac said Peppa was very soft and cute.
Isaac is looking forward to walking Peppa again.

Myths and legends

We started to explore myths and legends today. We discussed what these are and if we all have similar myths in a various cultures.

Students have been encouraged to talk with their families to learn about a myth from their culture. Some students made use of our library time to discover for themselves some myths from their culture - great problem solving!

Athletics day

Fantastic participation by all the students.

How well do you do on the event you have been practising?

Being descriptive writers

We have been looking at how to be descriptive by using our words to create a clear picture in our readers minds.

This week we have been reading The Twits, we used Roald Dahl as an author model and looked at how he plays with words to hook his readers and create a clear picture in their minds.

Here is what we are currently working on:

Comic secrets

Earlier this week we found out that Michel Mulipola was the partner Marleen, a Teacher Aide at our school. We had read about him and his comics during a guided reading lesson earlier in the week.

When we asked Marleen about this while in the library she arranged a little surprise...we got to meet Michel and listen to him tell us about how he makes comics.

Thanks Marleen!

We have been exploring the pulse in music.

We began by listening to Macy Gray's "All the Beauty in the World". We identified the layers int he music and discovered the beat - the pulse int he music.

We have been developing our own 4 beat clap patterns and have begun to notate this.
