Messy Maths

This week have been exploring maths through a real life context...organising a family trip with a budget of $50.

The learners quickly realised that even with the option of family passes for many of Auckland popular attractions their 50 dollars wasn't going to stretch that far. The learners were going to have to be creative.

Some students shared back today - trips to jump with free parent supervision, the session only last an hour so no need to include food in the budget! Car pooling with other students to save money on petrol. Shopping for picnic food at supermarkets. Trips to the snakes and ladders park at Farm Cove.

The learners are beginning to realise the value of money and that car trips cost too - there and back!

There seemed to be an unanimous agreement within the classroom that this was a fun way to do maths and they are looking forward to next weeks challenge...feeding their family a healthy dinner for less than $20.

Publishers

Our neighbours from Room 26 visited Wednesday with their fantastic writing. We practiced our typing by publishing their stories.
