Anna found this nest at her house and brought it to school to share with us.
This started a discussion about birds and their nests. We wanted to find out the species of bird that these eggs belonged to.
We carefully looked at the eggs and observed the special features of the egg to help us with our internet searches, such as the size, colour and number of eggs. We decided that the eggs belong to a Common Blackbird, based on comparing the pictures on the internet with the eggs inside the nest.
Lizzie found a picture of an adult Common Blackbird, Anna confirmed that this is what she sees often in her backyard. We found out that the female blackbirds aren't actually black, they are brown. Zoe whats to know why they aren't black. We talked about the female birds being responsible for sitting on the eggs and that being brown might help it to camouflage with its surroundings.
The bird nest was very interesting thank you Anna for bring in the bird nest you found. :3
