Writing like a solider

We have been learning to add detail to our writing.

As part of our Anzac Day inquiry we put ourselves in the shoes of the soldiers, medics or civilians who might have been caught up in the liberation of Le Quesnoy - a French town liberate by New Zeland in the last days of World War One.

We listened to war sounds and went into our bunkers/shelters/ trenches to write a letter or diary entry. We had to put ourselves in someone else shoes and think about the things they would see, hear, smell and feel. We were glued to our Chromebooks and wrote for a whole block!

Being Leaders

The first year 1:1 device students got their Chromebooks yesterday, what an awesome opportunity for the second year 1:1 device students to be leaders and help their class mates out. 

We have been learning to log into our Chromebook, find the google drive, make a document, label a document and file the document. 

Today we talked about the etiquette of working on a shared document and put this into practice as we shared what we did for Waitangi Day and what it means to us.

New Zealand is an island, and we know how important it is to learn how to be safe in the water.

We are learning how to kick our legs under the water.

We are learning to confidently place out heads under the water.

We are practising our arm strokes.

Learning to work together

We were given newspaper, Sellotape and time...time to build a tower that's at least 1 metre high and can hold the weight of a tennis ball.

Waa the purpose of the activity to build the biggest tower? Or was the purpose to get to know each other and learn to collaborate?

After 5 minutes of planning time we began to make our towers. We quickly learnt that to collaborate we need to share our ideas, listen to each other and makesure we are all involved.

Soccer Taster

We were lucky enough to have a soccer taster today with Brandon.

We started off playing soccer stuck in the mud.

We then got split into four groups and one person from each group got to practice being a goalkeeper as the rest of the group tried to score a goal.

We then played a game of bull rush, but with soccer balls. 

Thanks Brandon we had heaps of fun!
