Police Helicopter

One day Room 25 saw a helicopter. We went to see it. It landed on New Windsor’s back field.  I got to ask them a question. I asked “how many hours a week do you have to work?” the police pilot told me “50 hours a week”. When they left it was so windy. It was the most exciting thing in my life.

Cross Country

Well done to all the students in Room 25. A fantastic effort by all!

St. John's comes to New Windsor

Olivia from St John's came to explain to us the role of St John's and what we should do in an emergency.

We role played making an emergency call and in a calm and clear voice answering the dispatchers questions. We learnt why it is important for us to know our phone number and address.

Olivia showed us how to bandage a cut to stop the bleeding. Olivia from room 25 helped in the demonstration.

"Plug it, squeeze it, lift it and wrap it!" We practiced on each other. 

Last Futsal Lesson

The students were sad to have their last Futsal lesson today...but enjoyed their mini tournament.

Well done to all the students in Room 25 for trying their best and being supportive of one another. 

Room 25 visits the Library

We practiced our school values - be respectful, be responsible and be the best you can be while we visited our school library.

We respected the people who would come through the corridor by placing our shoes against the wall.

We returned our books, so others could enjoy them too.

We remembered our book bags so we could look after the books and return them in the condition we borrowed them in.

We shared the beanbags and read quietly.

We made the right book choices for ourselves.

Are all rocks the same?

We have been learning to compare and contrast. We first practiced as a whole class using landforms...One Tree Hill and Aoraki Mt Cook.

We were each given a rock (some of us used the rocks we had collected from around our houses). We looked at our rock, and them explained to a buddy what we could see. On a Venn diagram we made notes on  the similarities and differences we observed.

We shared what we found, and then talked about how a geologist might categories rocks. We thought they might do this based on colour. We decided to categories our rocks based on colour. 

We decided that there were some rocks in the wrong colour category, so we moved these rocks. This is how we finally categorized our rocks.

There was still some debat over some rocks being in the right colour category. We decided that geologists probably don't categories rocks based on colour because many if the rocks we looked at aren't just one colour.

Mahek asked a really good question...why are rocks different colours? Siddhesh thought this might be because rocks come from different places and the colour of the rock tells you if it is from a mountain or a river. Olivia and Emily thought that the colour of the rock tells you what country the rock is from. 

Rock Observations

This term we are learning about land formation in science. 

We began the unit by brainstorming what the word landform could mean. Some of us thought it had something to do with people. Others thought it had something to do with nature. Some students spotted the word land and thought it had something to do with hills and mountains.

Armed with magnifiying glasses we became geologists and observed a range of rocks. The students we able to practice their observation and data recording skills.
